SASB EM-MM: Metals & MiningAudit Ready

SASB Industry Standard — Metals & Mining  ·  Period: 14 Mar 202614 Apr 2026

Purpose

The SASB Metals & Mining standard provides financially material, industry-specific ESG metrics designed for use by securities analysts and investors. Unlike the broader GRI framework, SASB focuses on the subset of sustainability information most likely to affect enterprise value in the mining sector — making it the preferred disclosure format for investor relations and integrated annual reports.

Scope & Boundary

Covers SASB metrics applicable to platinum group metals mining and processing. EM-MM-150a.1 (tailings produced) and EM-MM-150a.2 (waste rock generated) are the primary quantitative disclosures. Hazardous waste characterisation follows GHS and UN ADR Transport standards. Data is directly comparable to peer disclosures from Sibanye-Stillwater, Impala Platinum, and Northam Platinum.

Key Disclosures

  • EM-MM-150a.1: Total weight of tailings produced
  • EM-MM-150a.2: Total weight of waste rock generated
  • Hazardous waste fraction and GHS classification profile
  • Diversion rate benchmarked against sector peers

Primary Audience

Sell-side and buy-side mining analysts, ESG-integrated portfolio managers, Bloomberg ESG data terminals, MSCI and Sustainalytics rating agencies, and the JSE Sustainability Disclosure Guidance working group.
