GRI 306: Waste DisclosuresAudit Ready

GRI Universal Standards 2020  ·  Period: 14 Mar 202614 Apr 2026

Purpose

GRI 306 is the primary global standard for reporting on waste generation and management. It enables organisations to demonstrate responsible handling of waste across their operations and value chain, and is a prerequisite for any GRI-referenced sustainability report.

Scope & Boundary

Covers all waste generated at Anglo American Platinum's wholly-owned and controlled PGM mining, concentrating, smelting, and refining operations. Includes general industrial waste, hazardous process waste, tailings-derived streams, and office waste. Excludes waste generated by contractors operating under their own management systems.

Key Disclosures

  • 306-3: Waste generated by type and disposal method
  • 306-4: Waste diverted from disposal (recycling, recovery, treatment)
  • 306-5: Waste directed to disposal (landfill, incineration)
  • Zero Waste to Landfill (ZW2L) rate vs. Anglo American Sustainable Mining Plan target

Framework Alignment Note

This report aligns with GRI 306: Waste (2020). Disclosure 306-3 covers waste generated, 306-4 covers waste diverted from disposal, and 306-5 covers waste directed to disposal — as required by the NEM:WA framework applicable to PGM mining operations.
