GRI 303: Water & EffluentsAudit Ready

GRI Universal Standards 2018  ·  Period: 14 Mar 202614 Apr 2026

Purpose

GRI 303 addresses water as a shared resource and a material risk for PGM operations in semi-arid catchments. Anglo American Platinum's sites in the Limpopo and North West provinces are located in areas classified as high water stress, making this disclosure material to both investors and the communities that depend on the same water sources.

Scope & Boundary

Covers water withdrawn from all sources (borehole, surface water, and municipal supply) at operated mines, concentrators, and the Waterval Smelter. Reports water discharged to tailings dams and effluent treatment plants, and calculates net consumption. Tracks the proportion of water recycled through closed-loop process circuits in line with the Anglo American Sustainable Mining Plan target of ≥65% recycled by 2027.

Key Disclosures

  • 303-3: Water withdrawal by source
  • 303-4: Water discharge by destination
  • 303-5: Water consumption (net)
  • Recycled water rate vs. ≥65% target
  • Water stress classification (Limpopo & NW WMAs)

Primary Audience

Water-focused ESG investors (CDP Water Security), Department of Water & Sanitation, catchment management agencies, host communities, and sustainability assurance providers.

Framework Alignment Note

This report aligns with GRI 303: Water and Effluents (2018). All operations are located in water-stress areas (Limpopo and North West Water Management Areas). Withdrawal data covers all sources including borehole, surface and municipal. The recycled water rate target of ≥65% by 2027 aligns with the Anglo American Sustainable Mining Plan.
