GHG Protocol Corporate StandardAudit Ready
World Resources Institute / World Business Council for Sustainable Development · Period: 14 Mar 2026 — 14 Apr 2026
Purpose
The GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard is the internationally accepted methodology for constructing a GHG inventory. It defines how organisational boundaries are set, which emission sources are included, and how emission factors are selected and versioned — making it the methodological foundation that gives GRI 305, TCFD, and SBTi figures their credibility and comparability.
Scope & Boundary
Applies the operational control consolidation approach to all wholly-owned and majority-controlled operations. Equity-accounted joint ventures (Modikwa, Mototolo) are reported separately at equity share. The GHG basket covers CO₂, CH₄, N₂O, HFCs, PFCs, and SF₆ — though CO₂ represents >97% of the total. Scope 3 currently covers Category 4 (waste transport); Categories 1 (purchased goods/reagents) and other upstream categories will be phased in as supplier engagement matures.
Key Disclosures
- Organisational boundary: operational control approach
- Scope 1: 0.062 kg CO₂e/tonne-km (DEFRA 2023), IPCC 2006 tier 1 diesel, ICMM 2012 explosives factors
- Scope 2: Eskom location-based factor (0.912 kg CO₂e/kWh, 2023)
- Scope 3 inclusions/exclusions with rationale
- Verification status: limited assurance, aligned with ISO 14064-3
Primary Audience
GRI Standards assurance auditors (KPMG, PwC), SBTi Science-Based Targets validation, CDP Climate disclosure, ISO 14064-3 verification bodies, and internal ESG controllers for year-on-year inventory reconciliation.

Framework Alignment Note
This inventory follows the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard (revised edition). The operational control approach is used for organisational boundary setting. All wholly-owned and majority-controlled mining operations and processing facilities Verification: Limited assurance — aligned with ISO 14064-3.
